The KUNAI is a long gaiter made of softshell material that can be used more comfortably and extensively than rain gaiters.
Gaiters are essential for chinogging on poorly trodden ridges and streams to prevent foreign objects from entering the shoes.
When I was mountaineering and hiking, I used so-called rain spats (rain gaiters) made of waterproof fabric, but the fabric's breathability did not keep up with the amount of perspiration, causing steam and condensation, and the metal hooks that came off so quickly were annoying.
When we were planning new gaiters, which were different from rain spats, for the proposed mountain activity of sinogging, Tabi Shoes, which fit the foot even in a non-stretchable fabric, were a great help to us.
Based on the Tabi Shoes construction, the kohaze has been changed to a braided cord fastening, which allows the calf fit to be easily adjusted and can be easily and securely fastened to the shoe by using a toggle instead of the metal hook that was the cause of that frustration.
Thus a soft-shell gaiter is created that does not interfere with footwork and does not cause stress during bushwalking or prolonged snogging.
