'Lightweight and wind resistant'
The challenge of reconciling conflicting demands in a new dimension
'To provide wind resistance for use in mountainous terrain for four seasons.'
'As lightweight as possible, with space for a solo, unencumbered stay.'
ARATA took on the challenge of balancing these conflicting demands on a new dimension, different from existing tents.
After calculating the weight of the materials in the early stages of development, it soon became clear that it was essential to use tent poles that were lighter in weight rather than stronger. The question of using lighter tent poles while maintaining the strength of a mountain tent was a question that would not be easy to answer.
The answer to this question was a unique sleeve-hub structure and a truss structure with guy lines, based on the wisdom of our engineering experience. The sleeve hub is a revolutionary structure that combines the strength advantages of both sleeve and suspension systems, which have been the two options for conventional tents. Combined with a truss structure using guy lines, the tent's strength can be increased as the weather conditions change.
The width of the AX-79 is 210 cm, making it one of the longest one-person mountain tents of the Japanese brand. The maximum interior height is 98 cm, a height that even people taller than 180 cm have no difficulty with. The depth is kept to 80 cm, making it lightweight. When the depth was reduced to 80 cm, there was a concern about where to place backpacks. We solved this problem by providing a unique rear compartment space. In the rear compartment space, backpacks of 70 litres or more can be placed.
Despite this level of performance and comfort, after this update the minimum weight is a light 920g.
It is one of the lightest one-person mountain tents in its class*1.
The product includes the tent itself, flysheet and poles, as well as a groundsheet.
There is also a range of optional accessories that make the AX series even more robust and comfortable.
The AX-79 is a new generation of Japanese mountain tents for solo tenting and mountaineering.
