While retaining the 8-spoke design, carbon frame, and aluminum shaft,
A size that makes it even more versatile for a variety of situations
For arata's first folding trekking umbrella, the AU-08, and the full-length umbrella ASU-08 released later, we adopted the size 50, which is well-suited for Japan's mountain climbing environment, where the terrain often leads to frequent gusts of wind.
The AU-08—featuring a carbon fiber frame, aluminum shaft, eight spokes, and complete UV protection (white only)—has been highly regarded by many as a one-of-a-kind, high-rigidity folding trekking umbrella.
After that, NEIGHBORHOOD approached us with a proposal for a collaboration model, and we began developing a slightly larger size 55.
While it’s particularly well-suited for people with strong grip and arm strength, it has become a convenient item that provides ample protection from rain and sunlight in everyday life, where the wind is often light.
This model is designed to be easy to use not only for tall people but also in everyday life and a wide variety of other situations.
○ The Space Provided by a 96-cm Diameter
By using a 96-cm diameter—slightly larger than the AU-08—we’ve created a design that provides a sense of security by covering a wider area of the body.
One of its key features is that even tall people are unlikely to feel cramped, and it’s easy to use even while carrying a backpack or other luggage.
Designed for everyday use—such as commuting to work or school, or simply walking around town—this bag’s generous size ensures you’ll feel at ease even in unexpected rain or windy conditions, enhancing your comfort.
This model retains its compact, easy-to-handle portability while addressing the desire for a little more space.
• Pure White x Complete Light Blocking x 20D Ripstop Polyester
When selecting the fabric, I prioritized finding a balance between “complete light blockage” and “lightweight.”
The earlier AU-08/White model also faced the problem of unstable production lead times as a result of strict weight control measures.
Since the AU-08L/White uses more fabric than the AU-08, it can be said that it is more susceptible to this effect.
For this reason, we have adopted a production process that ensures consistent quality of the anti-glare coating—a factor that can easily cause weight variations, particularly in the AU-08L/White model.
It also continues the PFAS-free design introduced in Version 2 of the AU-08, utilizing materials that minimize environmental impact.
○ A handle shape “designed for ease of grip”
The handle of the AU-08L is designed with ease of grip as a priority over compactness, ensuring you can control the umbrella with confidence even in windy conditions.
It’s designed with the perfect length and thickness so that it’s easy to grip, whether you have large or small hands. We had a hard time finding a handle we were truly satisfied with, and while our search caused a delay in the launch, we believe the result is a product that will fully satisfy all of you.
○ EVA is used for the tip
Like the AU-08, it features an EVA tip.
It also retains the design that ensures no play between the shaft and handle and provides excellent control.
○ The "Do Not Collapse" feature is carried over
The AU-08L, which is better suited for everyday use, naturally retains the ability to be rolled up without folding—a feature introduced with the improvements made to the AU-08.
In addition, to improve portability when folded, we have designed the blade to be as short as possible without compromising functionality. As a result, the tip and the grip partially overlap when the knife is stored.
○ Easy-to-use "Dedicated Storage Pouch"
We also offer a special storage bag.
Just like the AU-08, the handle is left exposed rather than covered. This prevents your hands from slipping in sudden rain and allows you to pull the umbrella out immediately.
