Size 65, designed with both lightness and strength in mind
With the AU-08 in 2024 and the ASU-08 in 2025, arata has pursued the perfect balance of “lightweight” and “wind resistance” in its trekking umbrellas. The ASU-08XL incorporates the expertise in materials and frame design cultivated throughout this series into a spacious size 65 model.
The ASU-08, a size 50 (86 cm in diameter) model that’s easy to handle even on mountain ridges, and the ASU-08L, a 60-size (105 cm diameter) model designed for everyday use, the ASU-08XL is a 65-size model with a diameter of 113 cm and a total length of 77.5 cm—making it even larger. This model is designed for those who want a wide canopy to provide reliable protection from the sun and rain, or who prefer a more spacious umbrella. It is ideal for taller individuals and for leisure activities.

○ With its wide canopy, it’s perfect for a variety of situations
The ASU-08XL features the largest size in the ASU-08 series, the 65 size (113 cm in diameter). With a total length of 77.5 cm, it is also generously sized compared to other models in the ASU-08 series.
The wide canopy provides more thorough protection from the sun and rain for people and luggage. It’s perfect for a wide range of situations—from daily life, business, and commuting to golf, outdoor activities, and traveling with large luggage. It’s also ideal for situations where you want to shield someone else from the sun—such as when greeting guests at hotels or stores, or holding the umbrella over a loved one.
○ Frame design that prioritizes strength over lightness
The larger the umbrella, the greater the load on the frame when it is exposed to wind. With the ASU-08XL, we prioritized strength over lightness and, while using carbon—a lightweight material—we spared no expense in terms of material weight during development. We completely redesigned the shaft, main ribs, and cross ribs from the ground up to match the surface area of the canopy.
○ “Silver”: The Ultimate in Lightness
During the development of the AU-08 and ASU-08, we continuously refined the Silver fabric to achieve the optimal balance between weight and light-blocking efficiency. As a result, we have succeeded in creating a fabric that is extremely lightweight while maintaining a high light-blocking efficiency of 99.99% or more. By incorporating this fabric into this product, we have also helped reduce the overall weight of the umbrella.
If you prioritize lightweight design, we recommend Silver; if you prioritize light-blocking performance and absolutely do not want to get a tan, we recommend White.
○ Handle shape designed for a comfortable grip
Arata believes that the umbrella grip is a very important component. If the diameter of the umbrella changes, the surface area exposed to the wind changes; accordingly, the required frame strength changes, which in turn significantly alters the weight balance and the weight itself, leading to changes in the shape and size of the grip that feels comfortable to hold. Furthermore, when you consider the comfort of use for people with both small and large hands, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as a “one-size-fits-all” grip that is optimal for every umbrella.
The ASU-08XL features a newly designed, proprietary grip—one that is different even from the ASU-08L—for which a new mold was created. It also comes with a special strap to prevent it from being blown away by sudden gusts of wind.

It is designed to be more convenient to carry and store, and is easy to handle even when wet.

* Please note that the light-blocking coating may have some peeling, approximately the size of a pinhole, when you receive the product. Since this will not result in water leakage or sun damage, we do not consider this a defect; please be aware of this in advance.
* Please note that the light-blocking coating may peel off if subjected to strong force. The coating on the fabric’s creases will gradually peel off with repeated folding. Please be aware of this in advance.
* Since this product is made of lightweight fabric, it may tear if subjected to excessive force. In particular, when storing the umbrella, pulling on the strap while fastening the Velcro may cause the fabric to tear. Please fold the umbrella, wrap the fabric around it completely, and then wrap the strap and fasten the Velcro.
*Please note that the storage bag does not have sealed seams, so rainwater may seep through the seams.
