Longer-Length 5-Pocket Shorts
Designed to be the ideal shorts for hikers, the 5-Pocket Shorts feature a slightly shorter inseam than standard shorts to allow for greater freedom of movement while hiking.
At Yama to Michi, we believe that “this perfect length is what defines the 5-Pocket Shorts,” but it’s also true that we’ve received feedback from many customers saying, “We’d like shorts with a slightly longer inseam.”
To achieve this, we lengthened the 5-Pocket Shorts by about 3.5 cm and added tucks to compensate, ensuring that the shorts remain just as easy to move in. We also revised the pattern, resulting in shorts with a slimmer, cleaner silhouette.
These 5-Pocket Long Shorts will blend right in, whether you're in the mountains or the city.

・We have redesigned the waist belt strap to prevent twisting.
・We have changed from separate men's and women's styles to a unisex style.
*About the feel of the product against the skin
Due to variations within production lots, some items may feel slightly rough on the reverse side of the fabric when worn. This is not limited to specific colors or sizes but occurs in some items; it can be alleviated by ironing.

Comparison with the 5-Pocket Shorts
Compared to the 5-Pocket Shorts, the inseam is designed to be 3.5 cm longer on average.
We designed the pattern to be slightly slimmer to balance the silhouette, but we added tucks to ensure ease of movement and prevent the legs from feeling restricted.
5 Pockets to Make Your Hike More Comfortable
Yamato Michi’s original design features five pockets that efficiently store all the essentials you need for hiking without hindering your leg movement.
In particular, the smartphone pocket on the side of the pants is positioned perfectly so that it doesn’t jiggle while running and won’t get squished under your butt when you sit down. The large pocket, designed for hiking maps, can even hold a 500ml plastic bottle.
○ Excellent quick-drying properties and durability
When engaging in strenuous exercise in hot, humid conditions, it’s inevitable that your clothing will get wet from sweat and humidity; similarly, even high-performance rain gear will eventually get soaked if you’re out for an extended period in the rain. In other words, since you’re bound to get wet whether it’s sunny or rainy, quickly drying wet clothing is also extremely important when hiking.
However, while thinner fabric dries faster, hiking pants also need to be durable and sturdy enough to withstand the demands of the trail.
The 120 g/m² Taslan nylon used in the 5-Pocket Long Shorts has a cotton-like feel and is a lightweight fabric that combines quick-drying properties with durability.
Comparison of moisture content 15 minutes after dehydration
We compared the moisture content of 5-Pocket Shorts/Pants with that of synthetic base layers and standard lightweight cotton shirts after 15 minutes of spin-drying. The lower the moisture content, the faster the drying speed. The moisture content of the 5-Pocket Shorts/Pants after 15 minutes of spin-drying was 1.0%, indicating that they were nearly dry at that point.
