■Thoughts and Creativity
I decided to make an artistic hammock.
There was no compromise whatsoever.

Before I knew it, 10 years had passed since I first became fascinated with hammocks through my work as a shino-gari.

During that time, I tried out several hammocks with different characteristics and, as I experienced the pros and cons of each new version, I began to see clearly what kind of hammock was necessary for shino-ging. Driven by the desire to create the ideal hammock, I selected several high-quality materials as candidates, but when I actually made them into hammocks, I couldn’t achieve the level of comfort I was looking for.

To be honest, this was an unexpected turn of events.

There are materials that make sleeping somewhat more comfortable, but they're pretty much the same as those used in other hammocks, so there's no point in making a big deal out of them.
However, thanks to a serendipitous turn of events during the prototyping phase, we were able to dramatically improve both the comfort and usability of the product. It just came to us. This is truly the result of trial and error—a level of quality that could never have been achieved by simply “deciding on the fabric and size, sewing it up, and calling it a day.”

The best part of shino-ging is, without a doubt, staying overnight.
On nights of the new moon, the crescent moon, and the full moon—under all kinds of moons—I slept in a hammock.
The name "Gekkabijin" (Moonlit Beauty) embodies that very romance of Ryo.

■ Comfort and Usability
In general, polyester fabric has little stretch, so hammocks made from it can lack give and feel stiff when you lie in them.

In contrast, Gekkabijin, which uses a slightly stretchy nylon fabric, provides a sensation of floating—similar to that of an air suspension—across the entire surface of the hammock.

I guess you could say it “feels like it stretches to fit your body”...
Also, while standard hammocks tend to have the edges along the long sides rise up when weight is applied, the Gekkabijin doesn’t have this issue, so you can sleep in a flatter position, and the edges along the long sides won’t dig into the backs of your knees when you sit.

Also, I think this is a result of the fabric's stretch—when you sit down, the back panel lifts up slightly, creating just the right amount of back support.
The hammock surface, featuring a double-weave fabric with a fine textured finish, is slip-resistant and offers excellent breathability and moisture-wicking properties, helping to prevent sweating.
This ensures comfort during humid seasons or when getting into bed while still sweaty.
Measuring 240 cm long and 140 cm wide, this size allows people up to about 180 cm tall to sleep comfortably.
There are small pockets on both sides of the hammock, so you can use them whether you're lying down or sitting—no matter which way you face. Plus, since the pockets are positioned off-center, you won't have any trouble using the hammock even when wearing a cross-legged skirt or hakama skirt.

■How to Use It
The key is to set up the hammock a little higher than usual, since it will sag when you put your weight on it.
In keeping with Ryo's aesthetic philosophy, the "Moonlight Beauty" does not come with a storage pouch.
That's because large pieces of fabric, such as tarps and hammocks, can easily fit into the gaps in your backpack when you pack them last.
Doing this helps the backpack maintain its natural shape and makes it easier to balance the weight.

■Material Features
It features Asahi Kasei's ECOSENSOR fabric, which is made from recycled materials.
This matte, subdued double-weave ripstop nylon has a moderate texture yet is lightweight and soft to the touch. With a high breathability rating of 16.6 cm³/cm²/s and excellent moisture-wicking properties, it helps reduce stuffiness.
