DAC J-STAKE Set (12pcs)

It maintains the balance between lightness and strength and is now available in a versatile size.

"We use lightweight poles to provide maximum support for their weakness."
While retaining the original concept, we’ve developed a highly versatile 1.5P model.

Every tent in the AX Series features a backroom, achieving a balance between weight reduction—achieved by reducing the floor area—and usability.

On the other hand, when using it in the mountains, there were times when I had to be careful about snow getting inside whenever I left my backpack or boots in the backroom.
(Although it is possible to handle this with a little ingenuity—such as wrapping it in a plastic bag—)

We’ve also received many requests since the product’s launch from customers who say they can tolerate a little extra weight but don’t want to go as far as buying a two-person tent (AX-130), and who would like us to offer a size that falls between the AX-79 and the AX-130.

The AX-100 is a model designed to solve such problems and meet such needs.

■Close-up detail
○ Both the inner layer and the outer layer are made of gray fabric that is not easily see-through.

○ It features a spacious vestibule that’s ideal for cooking and storing luggage.

○ Large doors designed for easy entry and exit (with adjustable mesh)
L-shaped doors are easy to open and close with one hand, and unlike reverse-U-shaped doors, you can enter and exit without having to open them all the way.

○ On the opposite side of the entrance, there is a small window that provides access to the back room.

○ Easy access from inside the tent to the rear compartment
You can store items that are difficult to fit inside the tent, such as hiking boots and crampons.
Using the separately sold ground sheet for the rear compartment prevents your belongings from coming into direct contact with the ground, making for a more comfortable experience.

○ Chimney-Type Ventilation with Mesh Window
Since nylon does not create a completely airtight seal, it reduces the risk of suffocation during periods of heavy snowfall, such as in the depths of winter.
The design draws in cool air through the mesh window at the bottom of the entrance and expels the warmed air from the top.

○ The entrances to the inner tent and fly sheet feature a convenient double-slider design.
You can open just the top to check what's going on outside.

○ The top is equipped with ventilation rods, which can improve airflow.
It is designed to prevent rain from entering even when it is open.
We redesigned it so it wouldn't get in the way when not in use.

○ The bottom of the inner tent has two mesh pockets.
We added a plastic ring below the inner guy line attachment point to make it easier to adjust the tension of the guy line.

■Technical Note
○ We use different poles depending on the situation; the DAC Featherlite NFL 8.7 is our standard model, and we have the DAC PL 10.65 on hand for severe conditions.

Like the existing AX-75, AX-79, and AX-130 models, the AX-100 comes standard with the lightweight Featherlite NFL 8.7 DAC (hereinafter referred to as NFL 8.7).

The NFL 8.7 is the result of DAC’s industry-leading manufacturing technology; while it is an extremely lightweight tent pole, it is also true that its strength has its limits. For this reason, the AX series was equipped with various mechanisms to compensate for the pole’s weaknesses.

However, it’s not a good idea to use a tent with that frame design when you know there will be heavy snowfall—enough to bury the tent—or strong winds. The AX-100 offers the DAC PL 10.65 as an optional feature, which significantly raises the tent’s limits when facing severe conditions.

(The AX-79 and AX-130 are also already part of the lineup.)

When comparing the moment of inertia of DAC PL 10.65 to that of the standard NFL 8.7, the DAC PL 10.65 is approximately 2.3 times greater, dramatically improving the tent’s wind resistance and snow load capacity.

Depending on your skills and choices, the AX-100 will be a reliable companion that allows you to enjoy safe mountain climbing with minimal effort.

1. Full-Sleeve Inner Tent x Continuation of the Proprietary Sleeve Hub
Of course, it retains the sleeve hub, one of the iconic features of the AX series.
This unique mechanism combines the best features of both sleeve-style and hanging-style systems. Some might think that sleeve-style tents are difficult to set up without ample space, but since the poles are connected as they are inserted—rather than extended all at once—you can easily set up the tent even in a tight campsite.

Although sleeve-style tents tend to be overlooked, once you get used to them, they can be set up more quickly than hanging-style tents. Also, while it may be a bit tricky, if necessary, you can pitch the flysheet, inner tent, and groundsheet all at once since they’re already connected—which is an advantage when setting up in the rain.

The sleeve hub is equipped with attachment points for guy lines. By using the separately sold emergency guy lines to cross them over the poles and stake them down, you can improve the tent’s wind resistance.

The sleeve hub guy lines can be threaded through the holes at the top of the flysheet and led outside.

2. Inner Guy Line
The AX Series inner tents feature distinctive inner guy lines installed on the inside of the short sides. These serve the same function as the reinforcing braces commonly found in prefabricated buildings, helping to prevent the tent from deforming due to wind coming from the long sides.

The proper tension is achieved when the guy lines are taut just as the tent begins to deform significantly. Since this level of tension can be somewhat cumbersome under normal conditions, keep the tension at a level that doesn’t get in the way during regular use, and loosen it slightly to adjust the tension when strong winds pose a risk of damage to the tent.

Furthermore, by installing the optional emergency guyline kit, the AX Series allows you to enhance the tent’s strength without sacrificing interior space. We recommend carrying this kit when embarking on long-distance treks where weather is difficult to predict, or when setting up camp in areas where conditions can change rapidly.

○ Rear compartment designed to expand cargo space and improve wind resistance
The AX Series features a front vestibule on the entrance side as well as a rear vestibule space at the back. This space serves as a cargo area and also enhances wind resistance from the rear.

Like a traditional mountaineering tent, the AX-100 can accommodate two people if they position their heads in an alternating pattern. It’s very useful for occasional use by two people.

○ Tent colors that are less see-through
At popular mountain campsites, it’s often so crowded that you could almost reach out and touch the tent next to you. Modern tents are made of thin fabric, and if they’re light-colored, you can sometimes even make out the people inside, even during the day.
The AX Series features both the inner tent and the flysheet in a dark gray color, which prevents people outside from seeing inside during the day and reduces the visibility of silhouettes when lights are on at night.

While darker colors cause the temperature inside the tent to rise during the day, it is difficult to stay inside the tent during the day in hot weather regardless of the color. The AX Series features color options designed to prioritize privacy.

■Option Parts

DAC J-STAKE Set (12pcs)
*This product does not include pegs. Please purchase them from the options above or provide your own.
DAC is a tent stake that arata trusts and believes is well-suited to Japan's mountainous terrain.
The V-Shape offers an excellent balance of penetration and stability, securely penetrating and gripping the ground without breaking—from soft soil to hard ground filled with large stones. From an engineer’s perspective, after evaluating the balance between cost and performance, we believe there is no peg superior to this one.

〇Emergency Guyline Kit
*Please purchase the Emergency Guyline Kit Version 2 for use with this product.
Optional accessories that further enhance the strength of the AX series.
By installing the emergency guyline kit as shown in the image above, you can increase the tent’s strength without sacrificing interior space.
We recommend carrying one with you, especially when hiking long distances where weather is difficult to predict, or when setting up a tent in areas where the weather is prone to sudden changes.

arata Ground Sheet for Back Room
*Please purchase the "Ground Sheet for Back Room Version 3" for use with this product.
This is a groundsheet for the backroom (the space between the flysheet and the main tent) of the AX Series. Using this product helps prevent dirt from the ground from getting inside the backroom. It’s a handy item for placing gear or other items you don’t want to get dirty.

*Please note that since we are using manufacturer images, the actual product may differ slightly in terms of specifications (such as logo placement, color, and pattern placement).
