The Yamato Michi Merino Knit Series uses the thinnest fabric thickness (145-155g/m2).
The 100% Merino Light Tank, which offers a comfortable and free fit, is also recommended to be paired with Yamato Michi's trail shirts.
100% Merino wool without any synthetic fibers mixed in provides strong deodorizing effects and excellent temperature and moisture regulation functions, making hiking comfortable.
Furthermore, many Merino wool products cannot be tumble dried because they may shrink or deform.
However, the 100% Merino Light fabric independently developed by Yamato Michi is a 100% Merino wool product that can be tumble dried at a low temperature setting (up to 60°C).
The difference in yarn shrinkage caused by tumbler drying during the finishing process creates a slub-like uneven texture on the fabric surface, giving it a worn vintage T-shirt feel.
* Updated to fabric that is less prone to skewing
From the 2023 model, by using yarn spun with compact spinning method, the fabric has been updated to be less prone to skewing, which was a previous issue.
■ Disadvantages of Wool
Merino wool has excellent properties and functions, but of course, it also has drawbacks. Please wear it with an understanding of both advantages and disadvantages.
・ Becomes heavy when wet
Wool with a high moisture content can absorb a lot of water in the fabric, so it takes longer to dry compared to synthetic fibers.
However, fibers with high quick-drying properties generate evaporative cooling as moisture evaporates, which can quickly take away body heat.
Also, regarding quick-drying, at the same fabric thickness, it dries faster than cotton.
・ Easily eaten by insects
Soft animal fibers such as wool, cashmere, and silk are most favored by clothing pests.
・ Easily worn and holes form
Wool has short fiber length, so fibers come out easily when rubbed, and compared to synthetic or cotton materials, the fabric tends to thin and holes form relatively easily.
・ Easily shrinks
Wool, which tends to shrink easily when washed, even washable wool treated to reduce shrinkage will inevitably shrink somewhat. After washing, spread and shape it before drying, and lightly iron it to reduce shrinkage.
・ Prone to distortion due to skewing
Due to the nature of knit materials, washing causes the yarn fibers to swell and exert force to return in the opposite direction of the twist, which can deform the fabric diagonally. This may cause distortion in the product shape.
・ Has a distinctive wool smell
Due to the nature of animal fibers, a distinctive smell may be noticed when wet after washing and spinning, but it disappears after drying.
