100% Merino
This product uses the thinnest fabric thickness (145-155g/m2) in Yama to Michi's Merino knit series.
The 100% Merino Light Tank is comfortable to wear and can be paired with Yama to Michi's Trail Shirt.
Made from 100% merino wool with no chemical fibers mixed in, it has a strong deodorizing effect and excellent temperature and moisture regulation properties, making hiking more comfortable.
Additionally, many merino wool products cannot be tumble dried as this can cause shrinkage and deformation.
However, Yama to Michi's proprietary 100% Merino Light fabric is a 100% merino wool product that can be tumble dried on a low temperature setting (maximum 60°C).
The difference in the degree of shrinkage of the threads due to tumble drying in the finishing process creates slubby unevenness on the surface of the fabric, giving it the texture of a well-worn vintage T-shirt.
*Updated to fabric that is less prone to warping
Starting with the 2023 model, we have updated the fabric to be less prone to distortion, a previously issue, by using yarn spun using a compact spinning method.
Disadvantages of wool
Merino wool has excellent properties and functions, but of course it also has drawbacks. Please be sure to understand the pros and cons before wearing it.
- Absorbs water and becomes heavy
Wool has a high moisture content and can absorb a lot of water into the fabric, so it takes longer to dry than synthetic fibers.
However, quick-drying fibers generate latent heat as moisture evaporates, which poses the risk of quickly taking away body heat.
In terms of quick-drying properties, it dries faster than cotton if the fabric is the same thickness.
- Easily eaten by insects
Soft animal fibres such as wool, cashmere and silk are the most popular materials for clothing pests.
- Easy to get holes due to rubbing
Wool has short fibres, so it is prone to shedding when rubbed, and compared to synthetic fibres or cotton, the fabric tends to thin and develop holes.

Wool has the tendency to shrink when washed, so even if it is washable wool that has been treated to prevent shrinkage, some shrinkage will occur. Due to the nature of knitted materials, washing can cause the yarn fibers to swell and generate a force that tries to return to the opposite direction of the twist, causing the fabric to deform diagonally. This can cause the shape of the product to become distorted.

Due to the characteristics of animal fibers, you may notice a unique odor when the fabric is wet, such as after spin-drying during washing, but the odor will disappear after drying.
