New standards for mountain solo tents.
Lightweight and strong enough to withstand all-season specifications.
'Lightweight and wind resistant'
The challenge of reconciling conflicting demands in a new dimension
'To provide wind resistance for use in mountainous terrain for four seasons.'
'As lightweight as possible, with space for a solo, unencumbered stay.'
ARATA took on the challenge of balancing these conflicting demands on a new dimension, different from existing tents.
When the weight of the materials was calculated in the re-initial stages of development, it soon became clear that it was essential to use tent poles that were lighter in weight than in strength.
The question of using lighter tent poles while ensuring the strength of a mountain tent - a question with no easy answers - was foreseen.
The answer, arrived at through the wisdom of his experience as an engineer, was a truss structure with a unique sleeve hub structure and guy lines.
The sleeve hub is a revolutionary construction that combines the strength advantages of both sleeve and suspended systems, which conventional tents have had to choose between.
This is further combined with a truss structure using guy lines, which allows the tent to be strengthened according to the weather conditions.
The width of the AX-79 is 210 cm, making it one of the longest one-person mountain tents of the Japanese brand.
Maximum interior height 98 cm.
The height is unobstructed even for people taller than 180 cm.
The depth is kept to 80 cm, making it lightweight.
A concern when the depth was reduced to 80 cm was where to place backpacks.
This problem has been solved by providing a unique rear compartment space. The rear compartment space can accommodate backpacks of 70 litres or more.
With such performance and comfort, it achieves a minimum weight of 915g.
It is one of the lightest one-person mountain tents available.
(Equipment weight 1060 g, but the weight of the attached groundsheet of 74 g is not included in the equipment weight).
Products include tent body and flysheet,
A groundsheet is included as well as pegs and poles.
Everything you need in one package.
There is also a range of optional accessories that make the AX series even more robust and comfortable.
The AX-79 is a new generation of Japanese mountain tents for solo tenting and mountaineering.
*Minimum weight does not include guy ropes.
*An optional emergency guyline kit must be purchased or a guyrope cut to the appropriate length must be fitted.
