Indigo-dyed tenugui hand towels with an image of the Suzuka Mountains, created under the theme 'Local to Local'.
The design of the tenugui towel shows a three-dimensional mountain range stretching from the front to the back in shades of colour. The delicate mountain pattern created by indigo dyeing spreads out beautifully and has a somewhat subdued feel to it. All of these patterns are hand-dyed by indigo dyeing artisan Namiho Konya.
Indigo dyeing artisan Namiho Konya is a rare craftsman who handles the entire process from cultivation to dyeing of the dyed indigo plant in the Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture. The warm shades of indigo dye are achieved through a series of time-consuming processes, from the cultivation of the raw material used for indigo dyeing, to the production of the dye and dyeing.
This tenugui is a special item that combines local traditions and techniques, with the Suzuka Mountains of Mie Prefecture represented in Chita cotton and Chita indigo. It is a beautiful item that can be used in everyday life or displayed on a wall as an interior decoration.
All products are dyed by hand, one by one, with natural indigo.

Chita cotton ... Chita cotton is a traditional cloth that has been used since the Edo period.

Namiho's indigo-dyed products are dyed in the traditional 'natural lye fermentation process' using Chita indigo 'sukumo'. Please read here for handling information.
Purchase We recommend that you first wash the product by hand gently in lukewarm water.
Brown lye may be produced during washing, but this is characteristic of natural indigo,
After repeated washing, the lye is removed and the blue colour becomes brighter and brighter.
Avoid fluorescent detergents and bleaches; use of a neutral detergent is recommended.
It is sensitive to sunlight and fluorescent light, and prolonged exposure may cause sunburn and colour fading.
When storing, store in a dark place such as a wardrobe or closet.
When drying, we recommend turning the garment inside out and drying it in the shade.
Ironing can be applied as indicated.
Please note that colour migration may occur if the product is wet and rubbed against other items.
