There is a wide variety of energy gels, amino acids, electrolytes, and other supplements available for consumption during a race, and it has now become standard practice for runners to view nutrition as a key factor directly linked to their performance.
Yet Mr. Iwamoto was puzzled by the fact that so many people still eat katsu-don, unagi-don, or a large plate of pasta the day before a race, and udon or rice balls on the morning of the race.
We pay so much attention to nutrition during a race, but is it really a good idea to force ourselves to eat so much before a race—even if it’s to ensure we have enough energy? ■answer600 Raw Materials Overview

○ Powdered oil: Oil that has been powdered, primarily made from palm oil. Palm oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the oil palm. It is said to have been used since ancient Egyptian times, and today it is widely used in processed foods such as chocolate, ice cream, and snack foods. Due to its resistance to oxidation, it is also commonly used as frying oil.
Although it has no specific health benefits, it is a type of oil that we consume frequently in our daily lives, so it can be incorporated into your diet just as you would with any other food.
Oils like perilla oil and flaxseed oil, which are generally considered healthy, are prone to oxidation and require careful handling—such as keeping them away from air as much as possible and storing them in a cool, dark place. In that regard, a major advantage of palm oil is that it can be safely transported to a race at room temperature.

• Soy milk powder: We use this as a source of protein and as a base ingredient to enhance the flavor. It is made by powdering soy milk, rather than using soybean powder or kinako. Since the dietary fiber in soy milk is removed as okara, it is an ideal ingredient for addressing bowel movement issues. We specifically chose soy milk because many people are concerned about bowel movements when drinking cow’s milk.

• Sugar: This is ordinary granulated sugar made from sugarcane or sugar beets. The main component of sugar is sucrose, a disaccharide composed of glucose and fructose. Be careful—many people mistakenly believe that sugar is a monosaccharide!
Since these aren’t simple sugars, they don’t provide immediate energy, so if you’re in a hurry, you should take a gel or something similar. As with our other ingredients, we use ingredients that are familiar to you in your daily life as much as possible, so you can feel confident about them. They taste better than artificial sweeteners. If it tastes good, refueling won’t feel like a chore.

○ Processed Egg Products: Whole eggs that have been dried and powdered. Originally intended as a commercial baking ingredient, they are used in the preparation of cookies and cakes, making them an excellent match for powdered fats, soy milk, and sugar. Eggs are often referred to as a "complete food" due to their excellent nutritional balance. They also possess emulsifying properties that allow water and oil to mix together. It is thanks to these properties that answer600, which is high in fat, mixes evenly with water.

〇Other Additives: Aside from the strawberry flavoring, the only other ingredients are secondary ingredients contained in the powdered fat. To ensure the product remains safe and delicious even when stored at room temperature—and to minimize quality degradation—we have kept the use of additives to an absolute minimum. While it would be possible to use additives to enhance the color, add sweeteners, or fortify the product with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, we have deliberately kept the formula simple because the product is designed to serve as a meal replacement.

Q. Isn't that high in fat?
A. While the calorie content is higher than that of typical energy supplements, the product is designed primarily as a meal replacement; therefore, its formulation is intended to provide sustained energy rather than immediate energy.
Since dishes like katsu don, curry, and hamburgers contain roughly the same amount of fat, the fat intake is no different from what you’d get from a typical meal. In fact, you can get a similar amount of fat without having to stuff yourself with those foods.

A. We arrived at 103g after striving to create a product that delivers a substantial calorie intake while still tasting great. We could have forced the formula to fit exactly 100g or made it even lighter, but we chose not to. These 103g are a testament to our commitment to ensuring that refueling isn’t a chore—we focused on making it delicious to drink.

Q. What flavor is it?
A. It basically tastes like soy milk, but we’ve added a hint of strawberry flavor to make it more palatable.

Q. Is it okay to drink it diluted?
A. The recommended amount of water (300 ml) is just a guideline. As long as you consume the entire contents of the packet, the amount of nutrients you receive will not change even if you mix it with more water.
