■About Fabric Durability
DF Merino Mesh, with its textured, mesh-like surface, is designed in such a way that when worn on its own, it is prone to pilling, snagging, and fraying due to friction with backpacks and other items.
Wool fibers are naturally short, so they tend to shed easily when rubbed. Compared to synthetic or cotton fabrics, wool is more prone to thinning and developing holes. Extra caution is required when moving through thick underbrush or rocky terrain, or when the fabric comes into contact with rough surfaces like coarse mesh, compared to standard wool knit fabrics.
If you anticipate rough conditions, we recommend wearing this item under a shell or shirt rather than on its own (since it is highly breathable and allows wind to pass through, a shell is also useful for protection against the cold).
■About Dye Transfer on Fabric
Please note that this product may cause color transfer if it comes into contact with white or light-colored shirts that are damp from sweat or rain.

DF Mesh Merino is a base layer series made from Yama to Michi’s original fabric, which effectively addresses the common drawbacks of traditional 100% merino wool—such as slow drying, stickiness when wet, and heat retention.
While retaining wool’s signature comfort, odor-neutralizing properties, and moisture-regulating benefits, the double-layer (DF) mesh construction wicks away sweat and dries quickly to prevent heat buildup. Layering it with a shell provides warmth, and the point-contact design minimizes discomfort even when sweating. This makes it ideal for high-intensity activities such as trail running and fast packing.
Designed with a slim fit that keeps sweat from pooling against the skin, this garment takes full advantage of the fabric’s high elasticity and ease of movement.

・The neckline and armholes are finished with a double-layered strip of the same fabric, cut narrow.
・The shoulder line is designed to sit further back to prevent chafing from the backpack’s shoulder straps, and a flat-seam machine was used to create a flat, smooth finish along the seams.
■Disadvantages of Wool
While merino wool has excellent properties and features, it does, of course, have its drawbacks. Please be sure to understand both the pros and cons before wearing it.
・Absorbs water and becomes heavy
Because it has a high moisture content and absorbs a lot of water, it takes longer to dry than synthetic fibers. However, quick-drying fibers generate latent heat as moisture evaporates, which carries the risk of rapidly drawing heat away from the body. That said, when comparing fabrics of the same thickness, they do dry faster than cotton.
・Prone to insect damage
Soft animal fibers such as wool, cashmere, and silk are particularly attractive to clothing pests.
・Prone to developing holes from friction
Because wool fibers are short, they tend to shed easily when rubbed, causing the fabric to thin out and develop holes more readily than synthetic or cotton fabrics.

Although wool is known to shrink easily when washed, even washable wool that has been treated to resist shrinking will still shrink to some extent.

Due to the nature of knit fabrics, washing causes the fibers to swell, creating a force that tries to reverse the twist. This can cause the fabric to distort diagonally, resulting in a warped shape.

Due to the nature of animal fibers, you may notice a distinctive odor when the fabric is damp—such as after spinning during the wash cycle—but the odor will disappear once it dries.
