The ATP-125 shatters the "conventional wisdom" that trekking poles get heavier every time their usability improves—whether through features like telescoping, all-season compatibility, or high weight capacity.
The ATP-125 uses a special type of carbon pipe with an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, and by connecting these pipes using a proprietary method, it achieves both light weight and high load-bearing capacity.
When folded, it measures 38 cm; when in use, it can be adjusted from 100 cm to 125 cm. Despite boasting a weight capacity of 36 kg, it is extremely lightweight, weighing just 134 g.
The ATP-125 sets a new standard for all-season, all-purpose trekking poles.
■Special Carbon Pipe That Combines Load-Bearing Capacity and Flexibility
The updated ATP-125 has replaced the previous direct filament-winding carbon with a conventional winding method.
At first glance, this may seem like a step backward, but it is actually a strategic choice aimed at further improving performance. We have upgraded the carbon fiber itself to a higher-strength grade and, recognizing the difference in deformation between the inner and outer surfaces of the pipe, have made precise adjustments to the material composition.
The outer layer, which undergoes significant deformation when subjected to load, consists of a flexible carbon sheet, while the inner layer uses a carbon sheet with low flexibility and high strength, contributing to the product’s lightweight design and high load-bearing capacity.
■Unique Foldable Linkage Structure
Generally speaking, there are two types of trekking poles that are compact when stored: “telescopic” and “folding.”
The main advantages of the telescopic design are its wide range of length adjustment and low incidence of problems; however, the small pipe diameter at the tip poses a strength limitation and acts as a constraint on weight reduction.
While a collapsible design allows all pipes to have the same diameter, a slight clearance is always required at the joints. When the pipes are under load and deflect, the ferrules and pipes come into point contact, creating a structure that is prone to breakage.
Although the ATP-125 is a collapsible design, it differs from conventional structures in that its joints are secured with screws. When under load and the pipe is flexed, the stress at the joints is distributed across at least two points—the threaded section and the ferrule—making the structure less prone to cracking.
In addition, the lightweight, high-strength 7000-series aluminum alloy threaded section itself serves as a reinforcing element. The threads at the connection points provide both reliability and light weight.
■Even lighter thanks to the use of Dyneema-reinforced shock cord
In typical folding models, the internal wires connect the tubes, so they must never break; as a result, wires protected by rubber or silicone are used, and these models cannot be described as lightweight.
On the other hand, the ATP-125 replaces the wire with a Dyneema-reinforced shock cord, making it lighter. Even if the shock cord were to snap during use, the pipes remain connected by screws; while this may make it slightly less convenient to use, it has absolutely no effect on the bike’s strength.
In addition, the shock cord is designed to be easily replaced. You can easily replace it yourself without having to send it in for repair each time.
■High-Precision Carbon Fittings
One of the reasons for phasing out direct filament winding carbon is to improve the strength of the joints.
Although the ATP-125 enhances the strength of its joints with its proprietary aluminum threads, the primary source of its strength lies in the carbon ferrule and carbon pipe—which can be considered the core of the product. Furthermore, the less play there is in these joints, the more effectively the force is distributed when the product is under load, resulting in greater strength.
Unfortunately, the direct filament winding carbon used in the previous ATP-125 model had significant dimensional variation in the carbon pipes (at a standard level), making it difficult to further reduce play. However, in the new ATP-125, dimensional variation has been reduced to one-third that of the previous model, enabling the achievement of stable, higher strength.
■Comes with a dedicated snow basket
If you plan to use it for all four seasons, a snow basket is a must-have.

■A tip shape designed to improve maneuverability on snowy mountains, making it a true all-rounder
When the ATP-125 was first released, its lightweight tip—designed with lightness in mind—made it difficult for the pole to dig into the snow, requiring some getting used to, and it was sometimes difficult to use on steep slopes.
In this update, the tip shape has been changed to one designed for trekking poles intended for heavy-duty use, and the length from the basket down has been extended.
As a result, its handling on snow has improved, making it a more versatile vehicle.
