'In search of true 100% wool'
When we visited Bishu, Aichi, where wool fabric is produced, to expand the possibilities of wool products at STATIC, as we believe that wool, a natural material, is an excellent choice for outdoor clothing.

There I came across a wool product with an unprecedented gentle, fluffy touch. I immediately tried it on and found it to be extremely comfortable. To be honest, there was so much difference between this and the previous wool products that I doubted whether it was really wool. This was actually made from wool fabric that had not been shrink-proofed. Furthermore, it was not dyed, and I was impressed by how gentle the original wool fibres are when they touch the skin.

However, the fact that the fabric is not shrink-proof means that it shrinks with each wash, making it difficult to wear casually as everyday wear, and furthermore, the fabric manufacturer that makes the shrink-proof and dye-free fabric has already gone out of business...

What is shrink-proofing?"
Shrink-proofing is an indispensable part of woollen wear.
While the popular 'chlorine resin treatment' is superior in terms of cost, I felt uncomfortable when I learnt that the shrink-proofing process emits organochlorine compounds, which are considered harmful to the environment, and that the fibres are covered with a resin.

Chlorination removes scales from the surface of the wool fibres, which have a water-repellent and moisture-regulating function. This means that shrink-proofing leads to a reduction in the functionality of the wool fibres. Furthermore, by covering the fibres with nylon or other resins, does this reduce the functionality of the wool? The question of biodegradability also arises. We also heard that the resin causes the fabric to become tougher with each use.

Is there any shrink-proofing that leaves the scales? Is there any shrink-proofing without resin?
