Our goal was to create a seamless backpack for day hikes
For example, when we go to areas like Takao or Okutama—which are easily accessible by train from Tokyo—we’re not really comfortable boarding the train in outfits that scream, “I’m off to hike!” because it feels a little embarrassing.
During the design process, we not only optimized the gear for the demanding activities of hiking, but we also aimed to create mountain gear with an old-school design—true to the RLMW aesthetic—that isn’t overly sporty. Bambi is seamless mountain gear that performs reliably on hikes and blends effortlessly into city life during the approach and after the descent.
The balance between the body and the harness is designed to distribute weight to the upper body, so it fits well regardless of height.
In addition, the inner urethane foam back pad is removable, allowing you to customize it by replacing it with a pad of your choice.
The main material is a durable yet lightweight, water-repellent 1000D nylon (15% polyester blend).
The concept of selecting the right material for the right place—using Dyneema® X Gridstop and X-PAC VX21 in key areas—is inspired by Antelope.
Bambi is a medium-sized backpack that’s versatile enough for day hikes, overnight stays in cabins, and—if you’re willing to go the extra mile with ultralight gear—even camping in a tent. Built around the “Back to Basic” concept, it has absolutely no gimmicks, but we’ve instead focused intently on its size, usability, and comfort.
The secret to its ease of use lies in the spacious outer pockets and bottle pockets.
The bottle pockets on both sides are large—each holds about 1.5 liters—and can easily accommodate two 500-milliliter plastic bottles or a 1-liter Nalgene bottle.
In addition to the classic Thermos bottle—a winter staple—it can easily accommodate outer shells and bulky Therm-a-Rest Z-Sheets, among other items, and can be used in a variety of ways depending on how you pack it.
The sturdy harness and back pad, inherited from the Antelope model, provide exceptional stability and are designed to minimize fatigue even during long hikes.
In addition, with numerous external loops strategically placed throughout, the possibilities for use are endless—you can adapt it to your own hiking style.
